Fundraising

Dementia Positive Pendle would like to take this opportunity to say thank you. Thank you to all the wonderful people who have so kindly donated to our cause and all those who have given their time and energy to fundraise for Dementia Positive Pendle. We are so grateful to the people who support us. All the money raised goes into supporting further community events and activities that improve understanding, knowledge and awareness of dementia.

We are committed to organising two large social events a year for people living with dementia in the Pendle area. In 2024, we had a ‘Summer of Love’ event at the Colne British Legion Club, with special quest appearances from Elvis Presley and the Beatles. At our regular Christmas Party we had numerous industrious elves, a couple of peculiar pantomime dames and an amazing fairy Godmother. These events have been made possible through your generous donations and the dedication of the Dementia Positive Pendle team. Money has been raised thanks to our supporters undertaking some very strenuous physical challenges.

In 2023, in collaboration with Building Bridges and Walk and Talk organisations around 130 people undertook the Pendle Three Peak Challenge and raised nearly £5000 for Dementia Positive Pendle.

MAKE Fundraising Raised £4000 Pounds
MAKE (NW) are proud to announce that we’ll be partnering with Dementia Positive Pendle throughout 2025 to help raise awareness and provide much-needed support for the people of Pendle dealing with dementia.

In 2024, our very own fundraising machine and trustee, Adrian Lamb completed the amazing feat of running three ultramarathons in the Sea to Summit challenge. He conquered all three of UK’s highest mountains, Snowden, Ben Nevis and Scarfell Pike to raise over a £1000. In the summer 2025 Ady was accompanied by our chairperson, Steve Wilson and facilitator of the Butterflies Café James Smith in completing a 30 mile walk from Bradford to Barnoldswick. The walk was to celebrate the Butterflies Memory Cafes, which was founded in Barnoldswick and has now been running for over three years. Also to recognise the inspirational work of the Memory Tree Organisation in Bradford in supporting people living with Dementia, who played in a pivotal role in the creation of the Butterflies Cafes in Barnoldswick and Colne. The walk raised over £1000.

Also in the summer of 2025, the amazing team at MAKE (NW) accompanied by a number of their partners completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge raising a total of £4000. They managed to finish the course in under 10 hours which was an incredible accomplishment based on the questionable weather conditions.

Below is a quote from Matt Guirdham the Director of MAKE about the inspiration for the fundraising event.

“As a small number of people know I sadly lost my Dad in November last year after a short battle with cancer. Many also know that throughout his life he was battling with Dementia. This is a horrible disease but luckily for him (and us) he didn’t give in. He was the same man all the way to the end. The work that small groups like Dementia Positive Pendle do is invaluable. They helped to make his life as “normal” as possible. Holding regular group sessions and of course the famous Christmas Party, helping to highlight that people suffering with Dementia are still just like you and me. The groups also provide a much-needed support network for the carers. My mum never left his side, which as you can imagine also takes its toll. Having these groups gave her a short period to breathe.

I’m really proud that our business has managed to partner with Dementia Positive Pendle and call on you all to please also help where you can. Small local groups need all the help they can get to keep providing such a positive and much needed service within the community”

Dementia Positive Pendle our already thinking of new challenges for 2026, to help us achieve our goal of working towards a Dementia Friendly Pendle.
