Memory cafes can provide safe and understanding environments in which people feel supported, understood and enjoy the company of others who are experiencing similar challenges and difficulties.
Memory cafes can provide a sense of empowerment to individuals with memory loss and their caregivers. By being part of a supportive community and learning from others’ experiences, members can feel more in control of their situation.
For individuals with memory loss, this can help them maintain a sense of autonomy and self-worth despite the challenges of the condition. For caregivers, it can offer a sense of validation and purpose in their role as a caregiver.

Dementia Positive Pendle is proud to support three Memory Cafe’s in the Pendle Area:
The Forget Me Not Memory Cafe at Brierfield Library
The Butterflies Cafe at Barnoldswick Library
The Butterflies Cafe at Colne Library
The Forget Me Not Cafe started in 2023. It provides a relaxed informal drop-in for people living with memory difficulties and their carers. It provides a range of activities (including seated exercises) and a wonderful opportunity to chat and share memories and stories. The Forget Me Not Cafe focuses on fun and companionship.
The Butterflies Cafe started in Barnoldswick in 2022 and in Colne in 2023. Their aim has been to provide cognitive stimulation through quizzes and reminiscence. The sessions are always light-hearted and the emphasis is on fun and laughter to help people have a well-deserved break from the stresses and strains of their lives.
